Fix Meta Quest 'Tracking Lost' Loop (Guardian Error)

Updated: 12/1/2025

You put on your headset, ready to jump into Beat Saber or Gorilla Tag, but the virtual world is floating away. A message floats in front of you saying 'Tracking Lost' or 'Guardian Not Found'. No matter how many times you try to reset your boundary, it keeps glitching out. This is usually caused by corrupted Guardian cache files, LED light interference, or dirty camera sensors.

Method 1: Clear Guardian History (The Soft Reset)

The Quest stores map data of every room you have ever played in. Over time, this data gets corrupted and confuses the headset. Clearing it forces a fresh scan.

Step 1: Settings

Put on your headset and go to Settings > Physical Space (or Guardian).

Step 2: Clear History

Scroll down until you see 'Clear Guardian History'. Click Clear. The headset will briefly go black and then ask you to draw a new boundary. This fixes the loop 90% of the time.

Method 2: Change Tracking Frequency

Your room's LED lights flicker at a speed your eyes can't see, but the Quest cameras can. If the frequency mismatches, tracking breaks.

Step 1: Advanced Settings

Go to Settings > System > Headset Tracking.

Step 2: Hz Toggle

Change the Tracking Frequency from 'Auto' to 50Hz or 60Hz depending on your region (use 60Hz for USA, 50Hz for Europe). This syncs the cameras with your light bulbs.

Method 3: Clean the External Cameras

It sounds obvious, but fingerprints on the four outer cameras create 'blind spots' for the AI tracking.

Tip: Use a dry microfiber cloth (like for glasses) to wipe the four cameras on the corners of the headset. Do not use liquid cleaners.
